Finding the beauty in combining new leather with old details while creating one of a kind, timeless pieces

Bespoke goods handmade in Texas. Women owned.

New Rein Leather was born from a simple yet powerful idea: to breathe new life into things once forgotten.

Where others see worn-out horse tack, old belts, rusted hardware, or broken scraps of leather and rawhide, I see potential. These discarded pieces—often left dusty in a barn corner or destined for the trash—become the foundation for something beautiful.

Each creation is an original, handcrafted piece that honors the unique character of the materials it’s made from. The weathered grain of a leather rein, the patina of aged brass, the curve of a well-worn belt—these tell a story. My work is about reimagining that history and crafting it into something to be appreciated, loved, and used once again.

New Rein Leather isn’t just about up-cycling; it’s about preserving the spirit of what once was and transforming it into something entirely new.

Items made with the rider in mind

From phone cases to bareback pads, I make useful items for equestrians.

Always Unique

Everything I make is unique, utilizing the natural edges of the leather, scars & brands. Elements of upcycled horse tack make each piece an individual

Kelly Powers

Designer

Kelly is a lifelong horsewoman and third-generation breeder, owner, rider, and carded judge of the Peruvian Horse—a breed her family first brought to the U.S. nearly a century ago. After a career in corporate sales and running her own graphic design and photography business, she felt the pull to return to hands-on creativity. In 2017, inspired by childhood 4-H leather craft classes and memories of making gear with her mom on the family ranch, she dusted off her old tools and began experimenting. New Rein Leather was born from a desire to give broken and forgotten horse tack a new purpose. Starting from her own box of broken tack, Kelly began crafting one-of-a-kind bags and accessories. What began as a hobby quickly grew into a business when people started asking, “Is that for sale?” Today, she transforms discarded leather items into beautiful, functional art with a story.
